Where Does Your Energy Go?

What if the question isn’t how to get more energy, but where the energy you already have is going? Much of our energy can become tied up in protection, anticipation, control, and self-monitoring. Creator Mode invites us to notice what is already spoken for and what becomes possible when more of our energy is available for participation in life.

Protection, participation, and the energy available for life

Most conversations about energy focus on how to get more of it.

More sleep.

Better boundaries.

Less stress.

Better time management.

All of those can help.

But Creator Mode invites another question:

Where does your energy go?

Because sometimes the issue isn't how much energy we have.

It's how much is already spoken for.

The invisible work we carry

Think about everything that may happen internally without ever appearing on a calendar.

Replaying a conversation.

Anticipating what could go wrong.

Trying to make the right decision.

Monitoring how other people are feeling.

Second-guessing yourself.

Trying not to disappoint someone.

Trying to make sure everything works out.

You may look capable, responsible, and productive from the outside while using an enormous amount of life force managing what is happening inside.

Protection doesn't always look like fear

Protection can look like perfectionism.

People pleasing.

Over-functioning.

Over-achieving.

Overthinking.

Keeping the peace.

Taking responsibility for everyone else's experience.

Needing to know what's going to happen before you can relax.

Often these strategies developed around something that mattered.

Belonging.

Safety.

Responsibility.

Dignity.

Connection.

Love.

A protector may be trying to prevent pain.

It may also be trying to preserve something precious.

So rather than asking:

How do I stop doing this?

we can ask:

What is all of this effort trying to protect or preserve?

The workload changed. The protection didn't.

Protection requires energy.

A little here.

A little there.

Day after day.

Sometimes the crisis ends, but the body keeps bracing.

The children grow up, but we keep carrying responsibility for everyone's experience.

The career becomes secure, but we keep proving.

The relationship becomes safe, but we keep anticipating rejection.

The workload changed. The protection didn't.

And while so much of the system is occupied, other capacities can become harder to access.

Play.

Curiosity.

Creativity.

Perspective.

Connection.

Our own deeper knowing.

This makes Where does my energy go? more than a question about fatigue.

It becomes a question about availability for life.

Relate before you reduce

Once we recognize protection, it's tempting to create a new assignment:

Now I need to stop doing this.

And suddenly striving has another job.

Creator Mode offers another approach:

Relate before you reduce.

Become curious.

What is this trying to protect?

What is it trying to preserve?

What does it believe it is responsible for?

Sometimes protection softens not because we defeated it, but because it discovers it is no longer carrying the situation alone.

And softening isn't the requirement. The protector belongs even when it isn't ready to change.

There is more of us here.

When more becomes available

When the grip softens, sometimes the first change is tiny.

A little less bracing.

A little more room.

And in that room, we may begin to notice what else is already here.

Curiosity.

Perspective.

Humor.

Creativity.

Connection.

Rest.

Perhaps what returns isn't simply energy.

It is access to more of ourselves.

And as protection softens and striving loosens, life begins moving through us differently.

Curiosity creates interest.

Humor brings lightness.

Connection creates warmth.

Creativity generates more creativity.

Participation generates aliveness.

And aliveness makes us more available to participate again.

The system becomes increasingly regenerative.

This doesn't mean life always feels lighter. Aliveness includes our capacity to be deeply affected by what is here. Sometimes fuller participation means allowing ourselves to feel the weight of life, not trying to move beyond it.

Creator Mode isn't about directing ourselves toward aliveness. It is about becoming more available to the whole of life and noticing what becomes possible from there.

So the next time you notice yourself pressured, preoccupied, or consumed by something, ask:

Where is my energy going right now?

What is all of this effort trying to protect or preserve?

And then notice:

What becomes available when nothing inside me has to work quite so hard?

Let that be enough.
